Welcome one and all to James Emms Movie Reviews! I'm James Emms, and I'll be your movie reviewer for the evening. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some top movie picks!

I'll use the James Emms Movie Thumbs scale - 2 thumbs up means that its a move you should RUN out and see, 1 thumb up means pick it up on as a rental the day it comes out. No thumbs means its a movie I'd throw on The Movie Network, where as 1 thumb down is a movie that I'd only watch if nothing else was on. The dreaded 2 thumbs down (reserved for such film gems such as "Gigli" are movies that you should under no circumstance watch - I've seen them so you don't have to!

I hope you enjoy the James Emms Movie Review Website, and I invite you to write your own comments on the movies as well!

Slumdog Millionaire - James Emms Review

by admin Email

Slumdog Millionaire is a fantastic story about three people, and their journeys growing up in the slums of Mumbai (Formerly Bombay). Immediately, within the first three minutes, you are addicted to this movie. It truly keeps you on the edge of your feet.

The movie follows a young boy, and his quest for love with a girl from his childhood. His brother, who although loved, is portrayed as the villain. The movie is centered around the Indian version of the show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and each question is documented to show a moment in this young boys life.

What really moved me was the cinematography in this film. The desperation of the slums was beautifully portrayed beautifully, and the music created an incredible ambiance.

I'll post the trailer here so you can begin to understand how powerful this movie really was:

This IS the movie of the year - the Oscars have confirmed this, and the people have too. This movie won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, and I was foolish enough to have missed it there - I wont make that mistake again when it comes to DVD!

James Emms' Verdict:
RENT IT: Only if money is too tight to buy it!
BUY IT: YES! Hell, buy a blu-ray player just to watch it in High Def!
WATCH IT: Twice!

9.5/10

Zack & Miri Make A Porno - James Emms' Review

by admin Email

James Emms - Zach & Miri Make A Porno Kevin Smith teams up with an allstar cast for one of the funniest comedies of 2008. Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival 2008 (which I attended the screening), this film brought Kevin Smith back to the main stream, and the cast showed why they were the best in the business.

Seth Rogen, the male lead in the story was absolutely hilarious, as usual. His performance rivals that of Knocked Up & Pineapple Express, and knocks you right out of your seat on a regular basis. The beautiful Elizabeth Banks shines in the female lead, with the "real life" charm you'd expect from Smith's writing. The star of the cast is undoubtedly Craig Robinson from the Office - he literally tore up the screen with every word, by far the most hilarious dialogue in the entire film

Overall Zach and Miri Makes A Porno is a hilarious, sexual, descriptive struggle that has a touch of realism that everyday people have in making payments and staying afloat. It is worth a watch, and in James Emms' opinion, its worth a buy!

James Emms' Verdict:
RENT IT: YES!
BUY IT: FOR SURE! IN BLU-RAY EVEN!
WATCH IT: YES, PVR IT EVEN!

8.5/10

Watch it with some friends and some drinks, you'll laugh the night away!

Never Been Kissed - James Emms' Review

by admin Email

Never Been Kissed, James Emms Review In this teen comedy, Josie (Drew Barrymore) is an "uncool" nerd working for a newspaper in Chicago. As her first article for the paper, she is sent undercover into a big city high school, and quickly finds out that not much has changed since she went years before. She starts off as the biggest nerd, but through the movie, she becomes the girl she couldn't her first time around.

Its a light, fun comedy with the expected plot climax at the end of the movie. Regardless, its worth a watch on TV or the net.

James Emms' Verdict:
RENT IT: Only if there isn't anything newer
BUY IT: Sure, if you're in love with Drew
WATCH IT ON TV: For sure, it would be a good date movie!

Shoot 'Em Up - James Emms' Review

by admin Email

James Emms - Shoot 'Em Up This is the James Emms review of the movie Shoot 'Em Up, a movie that fits perfectly into the genre its name describes. No less than 100 people were ridiculously shot during this film, including 7 or 8 perfect shots while Clive Owen has his way with a hooker (Monica Bellucci). The film was mildly entertaining, although each absurd shooting pushed my opinion closer to turning it off.

The premise of the flick is that a random woman dies for a random reason, and the baby that she just had is the target of an assassination.
If you take it with a grain of salt, the movie is bearable. Just like James Bond doesn't get shot and killed, Clive Owen has 500 lives, including jumping out of an airplane.

If you're looking for a movie to pass the time, then this is an OK one. I'd put it on and do something else (surf the net, cook dinner, etc) as the plot doesn't really contribute to anything.

James Emms' Verdict:
RENT IT? NO
WATCH IT ON TV? MAYBE
